Malaria is the forgotten plague of Africa. This program highlights the recent outbreak of malaria in Florida and its possible resurgence in the West.

10:30 p.m. Africa Live: The Roll Back Malaria Concert

The film of a concert performed by African musicians to raise global awareness of the continent’s Malaria crisis features Youssou Ndour, Baaba Maal, Angelique Kidjo, Awilo Longonmba, Seun Kuti with Tony Allen and Manu Dibango, Tinariwen, Corneille, and Tiken Jah Fakoly with Didier Awadi.

8:00 p.m. NatureThe Vanishing Lions As Africa’s largest predator, the lion should have nothing to fear. In fact, the king of the savannah faces an uncertain future, with numbers down to less than 30,000. Lion experts, farmers and Masai herdsman try to figure out why.

11:00 p.m. The Greening of Eritrea: Seawater Brings Hope to Africa’s Coast

This documentary is rich with the sights and sounds of this young East African nation. The program explores the history of the country against the backdrop of a unique technology—one that has the potential to turn desert coastlines around the world into lush green fields
